Tell us which shirt you want to see next!
Hi Fans and Foes of the post Paperwork Revolution,
We are having some discussions around what we'd like to print next week and we'd love your brilliant input.
So far here are some ideas:
1) I lost my friends to the the NPIC" or "I lost my friends to their non profit jobs"
2) "The NPIC gave me PTSD" (this idea is from Cecilio)
3) "Ivory Tower Hustler" (inspired by master ivory tower hustler, Zakiyyah)
4) "Non Profits are the new The Man" on front. on back, "The means have become the ends."
5) Too Sexy for the Academic Industrial Complex.
Which one do you like the best? or do you have other ideas? email us at thenewtheman (at) g mail dot com or comment here.
Hurry up and comment! Voting is almost closed!
We know the postpaperwork revolution will only come from collective effort! we are excited about your ideas for tshirt (and underwear) slogans you come up with on your short lunchbreak from your nonunionized, low pay, no credit, long houred nonprofit job to save the world. (or your research slave, vision impaired by small book print, florescent lighted, hot for teacher, undergrad/grad school scam). Please send them hot ideas our way and we, or course, credit you (!) on our way to demystify the beast.

the first is sadly true, the second is hilarious! Love em all and considering translations in Spanish, i's sure DF will have it's own NPIC problems...
ReplyDeleteYou are both genial! xoxoxox,
pati
numbers two three and five are my favs! I would buy them all too. if you could work in something encorporating my story about how I was told I had to dress "business casual" to Poetry for the People (and my cool boss said "June Jordan would've wanted you to dress like a hoochie, but June had tenure, you don;t" it would be cool beans.
ReplyDeletenumber 2 and some iteration of number 1, or perhaps something else such as "cant come out for demonstrations because you're demonstrating outcomes?"
ReplyDelete#1 and #4. this is awesome!!!! go mujeres!!!!!
ReplyDeletelol. i just made a spelling error, but i had to erase the whole thing...
ReplyDeleteanyways, i like number 1, with something about reclaiming our FRIENDS (twas the word i mis spelled earlier, had to get it right this time :) from the NPIC. and i dig number 5!
ya'll rock!
Pati, i would love to make the shirts bilingual! hmm how to say "non profit industrial complex" en espanol.
ReplyDeleteLeah, i'm sure i could make up something catchy for no tenure=no dress code freedom...
it looks like there are a lot of votes for number 1 (thanks will, ash and ms. love:)). that was lacey shoelaces fav as well.
thanks for voting! we might not end up screening on saturday so the voting could be up longer. if you come up with anything else, feel free to comment again!

i like numbers 2 and 3.
ReplyDeletei working on an original one. i let you know when i come up with it.
how about "the npic gave me ptsd so i'm hiding out in grad school" or "(i allowed) the npic murder my revolutionary vision." or, with a twist, "i'm too sexy for revolution in this country" (prolly not popular ones).
ReplyDeleteor "i'm too sexy to pay taxes." howsabout "i'm too sexy to steamroll this idea into a multi-million dollar venture capitalist extravaganza!"
peace and contentment,
m
i know i should stop but "i'm too sexy to be legitimized by the system."
ReplyDeletemarshall, you are wise like the yoda.
ReplyDeleteI vote for #4! Number 4!!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh good goddamn, they are all spectacular.
ReplyDeleteif i had to go with a fave, i really like #2
and really, i can't get enough of #4.
btw, marshall's one about murdered vision is definitely my kind of sinister.
io, maybe you can sell mike one of the nj4 "nonprofs are the new the man..." shirts if shoelaces and i don't end up screening it this time around?
ReplyDeleteI love them all and I think this project is overdue. But, if I had prioritize (LOL), I would chose #1. It will definitely turn heads and perhaps result in a few punches and other things being thrown at its wearer for reflecting a hard and sad truth. Run IT!
ReplyDelete#1 sure seems to be getting a lot of love...
ReplyDeletemy coworker suggested the shirt say, "I lost my friends to the NPIC and i'm fighting for their lives!" so the shirt isn't incredibly bleak.
nevertheless, it still might gain the wearer some battle scars. as for you, Akuno my dreaded warrior friend, i wouldn't worry, i'm pretty scrappy; i will protect you
i like #2!!! especially the graphic for it. instead of NPIC which a lot of people might not know what it stands for, can you say "non profit job?" love it love it
ReplyDeleteall awesome, and i like #1 and #4 best.
ReplyDeletei gotta say i am feelin' the:
i lost myself to my nonprofit job where i naively had high hopes because it is "collectively run" today... sigh.
rad shirts! excited for the next one!
Hi C,
ReplyDeleteI think we will put "non profit job"
Hey Elokin,
if only "collectively run" meant everyone gets paid a living wage and works with dignity and respect.... i'm sorry you are going through that. feel free to come screen with us if you need some kind of art therapy!
